This is my biggest wish for Charles in the sequal, because I think it changes so much of how his character can be interpreted.  A soldier who yearns for peace is a different animal entirely than a man who just vocally claims to embrace nonviolence. 
Not to mention the thing I find humorous and tragic BOTH in the first movie is the fact that Charles saw so much of Erik’s history and Erik saw literally nothing of his…  If he had understood what MADE Charles the man that he is I wonder if Cuba would have ever gone down the way that it did.
